CCEMC awards Drayton Valley grant for purchase and construction of a WastAway® facility

McMinnville, TN – WastAway® LLC, of McMinnville, TN announced today that CCEMC (Climate Change and Emissions Management Corporation) in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada has awarded a $10 million grant to the town Of Drayton Valley in Alberta. The grant is directed towards the purchase and construction of a WastAway facility to convert municipal solid waste into solid fuel pellets and in so doing divert waste from landfills. Diverting waste from landfills is good for the environment in many ways, including avoiding the creation of methane, one of the most harmful greenhouse gasses. The WastAway pellets have the same heat value as coal and will provide an alternative fuel source to Alberta coal power plants in the production of cleaner and greener electricity for Alberta.

WastAway CEO, Mark S. Brown, added the following comments about the grant received by Drayton Valley. “First, let me congratulate Mayor Moe Hamden and the town of Drayton Valley.  Their innovative environmental leadership is nationally recognized, and this once again demonstrates that even small communities can become world leaders in sustainability.  This project will become WastAway’s first Canadian project, and illustrates our company’s philosophy that the best environmental projects are ones that are environmentally sustainable, economically viable and technologically proven.  The DV project not only diverts waste from the landfill, but increases recycling and reduces potent greenhouse gas emissions, as well as generating revenues for Drayton Valley for other needed services.  Also, let me thank CCEMC for choosing this project to fund out of the hundreds they reviewed. This further illustrates that third party reviewers recognize the environmental and economic advantages offered by the WastAway technology.”
